Get to know Dr Ahmed

My Story

Dr. Sabah Ahmed is a highly experienced Consultant in General Adult Psychiatry based in Birmingham. She is currently working in the NHS (Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Trust) as a Community Perinatal Psychiatrist since 2018. 

​

She qualified as a doctor from Leeds University in 1998. Since then she has had extensive and varied experience of working in different NHS organisations across the country. She has worked in Leeds, Leicester and, Manchester prior to settling in the local area. 

​

She is registered with the GMC and gained her CCT in General Adult Psychiatry with endorsement in Liaison Psychiatry. She has been a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists since 2006. 

She is passionate about learning and expanding her knowledge base, so regularly attends courses and meetings to ensure she is updated on the latest developments and current evidence. She maintains a high standard of practice through continuing professional development.

Dr. Ahmed is described as a caring and compassionate doctor, who is a strong advocate for a person centred holistic approach incorporating all aspects of a bio-psychosocial management plan for her patients. As well as utilising medication, she is able to recommend psychological approaches and lifestyle management adjustments to construct a personalised and tailored plan for each of her patients. She is able to diagnose and treat the spectrum of mental disorders including  Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, Psychosis, Complex trauma, Dissociative disorders and ADHD.

 

She has special expertise in the area of ‘Women’s mental health’ including perinatal mental health problems, PMDD and mental illness arising in the Perimenopause. She has a special interest in the impact of hormones on female mental health through the lifespan.

Outside of work, Dr. Ahmed regularly practises yoga and mindfulness. She is a keen advocate of incorporating differing forms of exercise in management plans for patients where possible. She enjoys going on long nature walks, reading and spending time with her family.
