Meet Our Clinical Team
Respiratory & Sleep Physician
Dr Farrukh Rauf is our Chief Executive Officer and a consultant physician in respiratory medicine, practising in Birmingham and Solihull. Dr Rauf is Clinical Service Lead for Respiratory Medicine at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham and Chair of cross site Respiratory Clinical Network at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust. Dr Rauf graduated from King Edward Medical College in Pakistan in 2003 which is one of the most prestigious and oldest institute in the region. He started NHS career in 2005 and went on to complete his core medical and then dual specialist training in South East London and West Midlands, achieving his certificate of completion of training (CCT) in respiratory and general internal medicine in 2016. Dr Rauf was in the same year appointed as a Consultant Respiratory Physician in The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham. Dr Farrukh Rauf has a particular interest in teaching and training. He participates in training the committee of the regional respiratory trainees and is a clinical tutor at University Hospital Birmingham. He has a very successful leadership, mentoring and quality improvement strands to his career as well. Dr Rauf’s clinical interest includes seeing a range of respiratory presentations, including cough and breathlessness of unclear causes, airway diseases, haemoptysis and respiratory infections. His specialist interests are sleep breathing disorders and bronchiectasis. He also takes a keen interest in practical procedures especially fibreoptic bronchoscopy and endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS). Farrukh has a busy job but as soon as he gets home, his three kids make him forget the day’s tiredness. He runs with his daughters in the evening and every Saturday, he coaches his son who wants to be a fast bowler in cricket.

Dr Farrukh is an experienced GP working in Birmingham and Solihull Area. Dr Farrukh is currently working as a senior GP in one of the local NHS surgeries in Solihull. She is Significant Event lead in her practice and keenly involved in teaching of medical, nursing and paramedic students. Dr Anbrin Farrukh started her medical career in 2003 after graduating from King Edward Medical College Pakistan. This is one the most prestigious medical institute in South Asia. She moved to the UK in 2007 and completed her basic medical training followed by specialist training in general practice. She achieved her certificate of completion of training (CCT) in General Practice in 2017. She has since worked at various practices in Birmingham, Solihull and Warwickshire. Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon
Mr. Uddin is a Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon with a special focus on primary and revision hip replacement, robotic hip and knee arthroplasty, metastatic bone disease, and complex trauma. He began his medical journey in 2003 and underwent training in general and plastic surgery before specializing in orthopaedics. This diverse background enriches his approach to patient care. Mr. Uddin, who moved to the UK in 2010, completed his orthopaedic training in the Poole and Bournemouth area. He has earned prestigious fellowships in hip and knee arthroplasty from the Royal College of Surgeons, England (2021) and a diploma in orthopaedic oncology from Oxford University. With additional fellowships in hip arthroplasty, hip preservation, and revision hip replacement, Mr. Uddin began his role as a consultant at Oxford University Hospital in November 2021. He's passionate about educating the future generation of orthopaedic surgeons, regularly engaging with medical students from Buckingham and Warwick medical schools. Mr. Uddin performs, on average, over 250 hip replacement and more than 100 knee replacement annually as well as 40 revision hip replacements with excellent results. Mr Uddin now offers robotic-arm assisted hip replacements using Mako SmartRobotics™, which provides a more precise replacement and soft tissue balancing ensuring optimum functional outcome for patients. Consultant Physician and Honorary Professor Diabetes and
Endocrinology
Professor Karamat is a consultant and honorary professor in diabetes and endocrinology at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. He completed his specialist training as an academic clinical lecturer from University of Birmingham and Health Education West Midlands and has been a consultant in NHS since 2012. His clinical areas of interest include role of technology in management of Type 1 DM as well as antenatal and complex diabetes. He leads the Type 1 Diabetes service and is also joint lead for the regional islet transplantation services with colleagues from Oxford. His expertise involves wide breadth of all aspects of diabetes and endocrinology including metabolic syndrome. He is actively involved in medical education and is the Training Programme Director for Diabetes and Endocrinology for Health Education West Midlands. He has been nominated as one of the national Diabetes UK Clinical Champions. He is currently the national recruitment lead for diabetes and endocrinology for UK and local RCP regional Advisor for West Midlands. He has been involved in writing reports about health inequalities in populations across Europe with Diabetes. In addition, he has published extensively in the field of ethnicity and diabetes, diabetes and cardiovascular disease and intensive insulin therapy as well as non- alcoholic fatty liver disease.
Stroke Physician
Dr Usman Ghani is the Clinical Service Lead for Stroke Medicine at University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire NHS Trust, where he leads stroke services across Warwickshire as part of the county’s centralised stroke care model. He graduated from Dow Medical College, Pakistan, in 2002, and began his NHS career in 2005. Dr Ghani holds triple accreditation in Stroke Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, and General Internal Medicine, achieving CCT in all three specialties in 2014. He was appointed Consultant Stroke Physician in 2015 and joined University Hospital Coventry in 2016. He was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) in 2018. Dr Ghani has a strong interest in clinical governance, service leadership, and medical education. He teaches Warwick Medical School students and is a PACES examiner for the Royal College of Physicians, London. General Practitioner
Dr Malik is an experienced General Practitioner and GP Partner based in Worcestershire. He is a Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) accredited GP Trainer and is actively involved in teaching medical students from Warwick Medical School. In addition to his clinical responsibilities, he serves as the management lead for his practice, contributing to the delivery of high-quality, well-organised patient care. Dr Malik graduated from Pakistan in 2002 and moved to the UK in 2003. He gained broad experience working in various internal medicine specialties and attained Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) in 2008. He subsequently chose career in General Practice, completing his Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in 2011, and has worked as a GP ever since. He has particular expertise in assessing and managing joint conditions and regularly performs joint injections as part of his clinical practice. Specialist Consultant Cardiologist
Dr Sohail Q. Khan is a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. He qualified in medicine from the University of Edinburgh and undertook Cardiology training in Leicester where he was awarded an MD by the University of Leicester for research into cardiac biomarkers and acute myocardial infarction (heart attack). Dr Khan then moved to Manchester to continue his cardiology training before being awarded the prestigious Boston Scientific Fellowship for advanced coronary intervention training at The University of Toronto/Toronto General Hospital, Canada. Dr Khan is heavily involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate training and holds an Honorary Senior Lecturer post at the University of Birmingham. He has trained numerous cardiologists many of whom are practising around the world in Europe, Asia and Africa. He runs a large clinical practice specialising in all areas of general and interventional cardiology and specialises in the treatment of high-risk coronary angioplasty patients. He is an expert in using rotablation, and intracoronary imaging (IVUS, OCT) which he uses to optimize stent implantation and achieve the best patient outcomes. He is also an expert in managing chronic total occlusion. He is one of the few UK cardiologists who performs laser atherectomy. He is widely published and is a local Principal Investigator for more than 6 National and International multi-centre clinical trials. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, London and Edinburgh, a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology and a Fellow of American College of Cardiology. He is regularly invited to lecture and has performed procedures both nationally and internationally as a guest operator. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his wife and 2 children and has recently taken up amateur astronomy.

Specialist Consultant Psychiatrist
RDr. Sabah Ahmed is a highly experienced Consultant in General Adult Psychiatry based in Birmingham. She is currently working in the NHS (Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Trust) as a Community Perinatal Psychiatrist since 2018. She qualified as a doctor from Leeds University in 1998. Since then she has had extensive and varied experience of working in different NHS organisations across the country. She has worked in Leeds, Leicester and, Manchester prior to settling in the local area. She is registered with the GMC and gained her CCT in General Adult Psychiatry with endorsement in Liaison Psychiatry. She has been a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists since 2006. She is passionate about learning and expanding her knowledge base, so regularly attends courses and meetings to ensure she is updated on the latest developments and current evidence. She maintains a high standard of practice through continuing professional development. Dr. Ahmed is described as a caring and compassionate doctor, who is a strong advocate for a person centred holistic approach incorporating all aspects of a bio-psychosocial management plan for her patients. As well as utilising medication, she is able to recommend psychological approaches and lifestyle management adjustments to construct a personalised and tailored plan for each of her patients. She is able to diagnose and treat the spectrum of mental disorders including Depression, Anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, Psychosis, Complex trauma, Dissociative disorders and ADHD. She has special expertise in the area of ‘Women’s mental health’ including perinatal mental health problems, PMDD and mental illness arising in the Perimenopause. Dr Salma Ghani is a highly experienced General Practitioner in the Solihull and Redditch area. She has over two decades of clinical experience and is known for her compassionate, thorough, and patient-centred approach to care. Currently she is working in a local NHS GP practice in Redditch. Dr Ghani graduated from Rawalpindi Medical College, Pakistan, in 2001 and moved to the UK in 2004. She gained extensive experience in hospital medicine, including gynaecology, paediatrics, and general medicine, before completing her GP training. She achieved her Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in General Practice in 2017 and has since worked as an established GP. Rebecca is a specialist respiratory physiotherapist. She qualified in 2004 from Brighton University. She worked in Essex for the first 12 years gaining experience across all areas of physiotherapy and specialising in respiratory medicine. She moved to the West Midlands in 2017 and has continued her career in respiratory medicine. She has undertaken a post graduate diploma in respiratory medicine at the University of Birmingham. She currently works full time at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham in a specialist respiratory team. Her areas of interest include bronchiectasis, Asthma, COPD & breathing pattern disorder. Amie Lomas is an accredited Senior Respiratory Physiologist with 15 years of experience in respiratory healthcare, having trained and worked extensively across the West Midlands. She began her NHS career in 2011 and has since built a strong clinical and leadership portfolio within respiratory and sleep diagnostics. Amie achieved her Association for Respiratory Technology & Physiology (ARTP) Spirometry Certification in 2013, progressing to full qualification in 2019. In 2020, Amie completed a Diploma in Healthcare Science, enabling her to go on and achieve Degree Equivalence and professional accreditation with the Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS). She is fully registered and maintains active membership with both professional bodies, demonstrating her commitment to maintaining high clinical standards and continued professional development. Amie currently works full-time at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, where as part of her respiratory role, she acts as Sleep Lead within the department. In this role, she performs sleep diagnostics, supports service development, and ensures the delivery of high-quality patient-centred respiratory/ sleep care. Emma Harrison is a Senior Respiratory Physiologist with 18 years of experience in respiratory healthcare. She began her NHS career in 2008. Emma completed a Diploma in Healthcare Science in 2020, enabling her to go on and achieve Degree Equivalence and professional accreditation with the Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS). Emma currently works full-time at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, where as part of her respiratory role, she acts as Quality Control Lead within the department. Prior to her NHS career, Emma worked as a carer within the community. Outside of her professional life, Emma enjoys spending time with her family and keeping fit. His background spans operational management, strategic planning and commercial development, with a strong track record of leading high-performing teams and delivering meaningful service transformation. Sam has extensive expertise in commercial healthcare delivery, tender development, business growth and partnership management. His senior positions within NHS system leadership have provided deep insight into operational pressures, elective recovery priorities, governance frameworks and large-scale service redesign. This combination of regional and national experience gives him a well-rounded understanding of healthcare delivery across both public and independent sectors. Outside of his professional work, Sam is a dedicated supporter of his hometown football club and enjoys hiking across the UK.
