Modern Slavery Statement

Financial Year: 2025 to 2026
Approved by: Chief Operating Officer and Registered Manager
Date of Approval: [Insert Date]

1. Introduction

Kingsford Medical Services is committed to the highest standards of ethical conduct and corporate responsibility. Modern slavery, human trafficking, forced labour and exploitation have no place within our organisation or our supply chain. We take a zero-tolerance approach to all forms of modern slavery and work proactively to reduce the risk of exploitation within the services we provide and the suppliers with whom we work.

This statement is made in accordance with the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and outlines the steps taken during the financial year to ensure modern slavery is not taking place in any part of our business.

2. Our Organisation

Kingsford Medical Services is a private healthcare provider based in the West Midlands. We deliver a range of clinical services including general practice, respiratory care, sleep medicine, orthopaedics, weight management and community-based health services. We employ highly skilled clinical and non-clinical staff and work in partnership with trusted suppliers to support safe and effective care.

Our leadership team is responsible for ensuring that our governance systems, policies and operational practices uphold our commitment to combating modern slavery.

3. Our Supply Chain

Our supply chain includes suppliers of medical equipment, clinical consumables, digital systems, estates and facilities management, professional services and recruitment agencies. Kingsford Medical Services maintains a small and directly managed supply chain, which allows increased visibility and control over procurement and vendor risk.

We expect all suppliers, contractors and partners to operate ethically, comply with UK legislation, and demonstrate robust processes to prevent modern slavery and exploitation.

4. Policies and Governance

We have implemented the following internal policies and governance arrangements which collectively contribute to our approach to preventing modern slavery:

  • Recruitment and Employment Policy ensuring all staff are recruited in line with UK employment legislation and NHS Employment Check Standards.

  • Safeguarding Policy outlining responsibilities to identify and escalate concerns relating to exploitation or abuse.

  • Whistleblowing Policy providing a safe mechanism for staff to raise concerns confidentially.

  • Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy promoting fair and respectful treatment of all individuals.

  • Supplier Due Diligence Procedure requiring ethical standards, appropriate accreditation and compliance with the Modern Slavery Act.

  • Lone Working and Health and Safety Policies supporting a safe working environment.

These policies are subject to periodic review and are approved through our governance structure.

5. Due Diligence and Risk Assessment

Kingsford Medical Services undertakes proportionate due diligence on suppliers to assess the risk of modern slavery. This includes:

  • Screening suppliers during onboarding for compliance with the Modern Slavery Act.

  • Reviewing supplier policies and ethical statements where applicable.

  • Evaluating geographical, sector-specific and service-based risks.

  • Ensuring that recruitment partners follow legal employment standards and provide assurance regarding worker rights.

We consider our overall risk profile to be low due to our UK-based operations and regulated healthcare environment, but we remain vigilant and continue to strengthen safeguards where required.

6. Training and Awareness

We ensure that our staff understand the signs of modern slavery and how to raise concerns. This is achieved through:

  • Mandatory safeguarding training for all staff which includes content on exploitation and trafficking.

  • Induction training for new starters covering ethical conduct and reporting lines.

  • Manager-level training on workforce governance and supplier oversight.

We also support a culture of openness where staff feel confident in reporting concerns without fear of retaliation.

7. Reporting Concerns

Kingsford Medical Services encourages staff, suppliers and stakeholders to report any suspicion or evidence of modern slavery. Concerns can be raised through:

  • The Whistleblowing Procedure

  • The Safeguarding Team

  • The Registered Manager

  • Anonymous reporting mechanisms where available

All reports are investigated promptly, sensitively and in accordance with legal and safeguarding requirements.

8. Continuous Improvement and Future Actions

Over the next financial year we will continue to strengthen our approach by:

  • Enhancing supplier audits and evidence requirements

  • Reviewing and updating relevant policies

  • Increasing training coverage for staff involved in procurement or recruitment

  • Continuing to monitor changing risks within the healthcare supply chain

We remain committed to continual improvement in identifying, preventing and responding to modern slavery.

9. Approval

This statement has been approved by the Board and the senior leadership team of Kingsford Medical Services and will be reviewed annually.
